    • 1). Park the truck on a level surface. Lift the front of the truck using the jack and put jack stands underneath the frame, then lower the jack so that the weight of the C1500 is on the stands. Take off the front wheels with the tire iron.

    • 2). Remove the cotter pin from the ball joint connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle using the cotter pin puller. Measure the distance from the end of the adjusting sleeve on the tie rod end to the center of the ball joint using the tape measure and note the distance. Mark the connection between the adjusting sleeve and the tie rod with the paint marker.

    • 3). Unbolt the tie rod end from the steering knuckle with the ratchet. Loosen the adjusting sleeve on the tie rod end using the ratchet. Remove the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using the hammer, then unscrew the tie rod end from the adjusting sleeve using an open-end wrench.

    • 4). Install the replacement tie rod end into the adjusting sleeve. Thread it in far enough that the measurement from Step 2 matches, and compare with the marking on the original tie rod end if necessary. Tighten the adjusting sleeve using the ratchet.

    • 5). Put the tie rod end into the steering knuckle and install the nut on the ball joint using the ratchet. Install the replacement cotter pin into the ball joint. Reinstall the front wheels and lower the truck off of the jack stands using the jack.
