Today we want to talk about Guy Marcal. He showed us the importance of the garden design and we want to encourage you to find out what is he exactly doing. He grew up in North Oxford. He read politics at Exeter University and went on to do a Masters in Early Modern History at King's College London. It was only after his brief experience in the City that he realized beyond all reasonable doubt that gardens were his true passion. He sat my RHS exams at Capel Manor and studied garden design at the English Gardening School in Chelsea. As well as gaining theoretical knowledge he honed his practical skills in carpentry, bricklaying and paving by working alongside craftsmen.

Today he does what he loves most - designing and creating exquisite gardens for people who share his passion for natural beauty. He offers a Garden Consultation service as an alternative to a garden design where formal drawings and plans are not required. The Garden Design service is the most comprehensive way of transforming your garden. For projects involving structural changes or creating new spaces within an existing garden a full garden design is the best way to achieve the most successful results. Garden maintenance is an area often underestimated in its importance. Many gardens can be transformed simply by using an experienced and qualified gardener to maximize their existing potential. Tree works and tree surgery. He also source garden furniture made from ethical materials, ironmongery, indoor and outdoor pots in ceramic, copper and stainless steel. Let's talk about one case study:
€When I first came to see this very large family garden in North London in February 2013 I was presented with two acres of lawn and unexciting planting.
My client wanted a complete transformation: a garden that would inspire her and that could be enjoyed throughout the year by her family and guests.
The garden design solution that I came up with embraced elements of traditional English style mixing in more contemporary features. My design divided the garden into different rooms. This echoes gardens that have influenced me, such as Sissinghurst and Hidcote Manor.
It was to be a garden that contained several gardens linked by a theme. The theme was a beautifully constructed path leading the visitor from each of the spaces. The rhythm is further enhanced through repetition of certain elements in the planting.
I was also keen to weave in ecological statements that would provide aesthetic qualities. The wild-flower meadow passage has excelled in this. Also I have used a plethora of bee and butterfly friendly plants to help and encourage pollinators.
Another important philosophy behind the design was sustainability. The installation of a vast rain harvesting irrigation system was important in this respect.
The result has been a stunning garden that provides beauty, drama and variety as well as giving its proud owners an ideal environment for entertaining guests and visitors€.
