    • 1). Allow the engine to cool and the oil to drain down into the oil pan. Block the rear wheels with wheel chocks. Lift the front of the vehicle with a floor jack under the front subframe until there is sufficient space under the truck to work safely. Place jack stands under the front of the frame behind the front wheel openings.

    • 2). Slide under the truck with a drain pan and a 15 mm socket and ratchet. Position the drain pan under the oil pan located behind the rear of the front subframe.

    • 3). Slowly remove the drain plug, located on the driver-side of the oil pan near the bottom of the pan, using a 15 mm socket and ratchet. Allow the oil to drain into the drain pan.

    • 4). Inspect the threads on the drain plug and replace the plug if the threads are damaged or distorted from over-tightening. Replace the drain plug gasket on the drain plug. Screw the drain plug into the oil pan by hand several turns. Stop and try again if the drain plug seems to get very tight, and can only be screwed in about half a turn, to avoid stripping the threads on the oil pan.

    • 5). Tighten the drain plug, but do not over-tighten it. Slide the drain pan under the oil filter and unscrew the filter using a filter wrench if performing a complete oil change. Lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with engine oil, and spin it onto the engine. Tighten the filter securely by hand.

    • 6). Slide the drain pan and wrenches from under the truck. Raise the S-10 off the jack stands and remove the stands. Lower the truck and remove the jack.

    • 7). Remove the oil filler cap located on the passenger-side valve cover near the fire wall. Install a funnel in the filler opening. Fill the engine with 4.5 qts. of 10w30 engine oil. Reinstall the filler cap and start the engine. Check for leaks.
