    • 1). Talk to your husband and brother one-on-one about why there is such tension between the two. Discuss ways to resolve the problem, at least to the point where the two can be in the same room together. Ask the two to meet for a drink or dinner to discuss their problems, or act as a mediator between the two.

    • 2). Give your brother and husband space if they are upset over an isolated incident. The best way to resolve a problem is to give the two time to heal before discussing the problem. It's part of human nature to let things calm down before getting over the situation, so over a few months or years the wound can heal on its own.

    • 3). Ask your brother and husband to be civil in the presence of each other. There's no reason either one should have to avoid family gatherings due to tension. If both put on a smile and do not acknowledge each other or stick to small talk, the party or gathering should be bearable for all involved.

    • 4). Ask your brother and husband to avoid putting you in the middle of their problems. Though you are married to your husband and he is your best friend, you should not have to choose between your husband and family. If you stay out of the problem, you do not feel pressured to choose one's side over the other.
