      Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, named after Charles Goodyear, started in 1898 with a mere $3500 down payment on the first plant. On the 29th of August, 1989, Goodyear officially became incorporated. In 1926, Goodyear became the world's largest rubber company and has a total of $20,000,000,000 in sales as of 2010. The Goodyear Wrangler AT/S, one of Goodyear's all-terrain style tires, comes in both light-truck (heavy-duty) and passenger (light-duty) tires.

    Sizes

    • The Wrangle AT/S comes in several different sizes so that it can fit a number of vehicles. The passenger-rated tire has only one size option, P265/70R17. The light-truck (LT) version of the Wrangler AT/S has five sizes available: LT215/75R15, LT235/75R15, LT275/65R18, LT275/65R20 and LT275/70R17.

    Weight

    • All tires have a maximum weight capacity at a specified inflation rated in pounds per square inch (psi). The weight capacity is the amount of weight each tire can safely carry for a given psi. The passenger rated tires have a maximum load rating of 2535 lbs. per tire at 35 psi. The LT tires are designed to hold more weight. The maximum capacity varies between the different sizes. The LT215/75R15 can carry 2095 lbs. per tire at 65 psi; the LT235/75R15 carries 2335 lbs. per tire at 65 psi; the LT275/65R18 carries 2535 lbs at 50 psi to 3415 lbs. at 80 psi, depending on the load range; the LT275/65R20 carries 3750 lbs. at 80 psi; and the LT275/70R17 carries 2600 lbs at 50 psi.

    Rim Width

    • All tires are rated to go on only certain sized rims. The passenger rated AT/S is only available for 7 to 9 inch wide rims. The LT rated AT/S has a wider range of accepted rim widths. The LT215/75R15 can handle 5.5 to 7 inch wide rims; the LT235/75R15 can handle 6 to 7 inch wide rims; the LT275/65R18 can handle 7.5 to 9 inch wide rims; the LT275/65R20 can handle 7.5 to 9.5 inch wide rims; and the LT275/70R17 can handle 7 to 8.5 inch rims.

    Section Width

    • The section width of a tire is the measurement of the contact surface with the road. All of the passenger rated Wrangler AT/S tires have a 10.7 inch section width. The LT rated AT/S's section widths vary, depending on the tire size. The LT215/75R15 has an 8.5 inch section width; the LT235/75R15 has a 9.3 inch section width; and the LT275/65R18, LT275/65R20 and LT275/70R17 all have an 11 inch section width.

    Outside Diameter

    • The outside diameter is the measurement from one side of the tire to the opposite side of the tire. The passenger rated Wrangler AT/S measures 31.6 inches. The LT rated Wrangler AT/S's outside diameter varies, depending on the size. The LT215/75R15 has a 27.7 inch outside diameter; the LT235/75R15 has a 29.1 inch outside diameter; the LT275/65R18 has a 32.1 inch outside diameter; the LT275/65R20 has a 34.1 outside diameter; and the LT275/70R17 has a 32.4 inch outside diameter.
