BMW 7 Series Full Lock Problems: Steering Locks
- 1). Check the shift lever. The car must be in "Park" to unlock the steering wheel. A car that is out of gear can cause the steering wheel to temporarily lock.
- 2). Apply a spray lubricant to the key cylinder of the ignition. A cylinder that has become worn may not move as smoothly. A spray lubricant allows the key cylinder mechanism to move more freely.
- 3). Jiggle the key back and forth while turning the steering wheel. Tug the wheel to the left and then to the right while turning the key until the steering wheel unlocks.
- 4). Bring your vehicle to an authorized BMW dealership or mechanic. A failed ignition key cylinder needs to be properly inspected and repaired by a trained professional.
