    • The first version of the Suzuki Katana was released at the IFMA Motorcycle show in Germany and brought shock to visitors when Suzuki informed them that the Katana was to be sold to the public the following production year. The Suzuki Katana 1100 was produced from 1979 to 2006 and the official model name of the Suzuki motorcycle was the GSX 1100 S Katana. The motorcycle followed the standard style of motorcycles, however, the Katana became a sport-touring motorcycle later in its production years.

    Engine and Transmission

    • The 2006 Suzuki Katana 1100 had a four-stroke horizontal in-line engine with four-cylinders. The engine was air- and oil-cooled and had 16 valves. It had a bore and stroke of 2.46 by 1.98 inches and a compression ratio of 11.3-to-1. The Katana had a manual six-speed transmission and chain final drive.

    Brakes, Wheels and Suspension

    • The Katana 1100 had dual hydraulic discs front brakes, the front suspension was a telescopic, oil damped fork with four-way adjustable rebound damping, and the front tire was a 120/70-ZR-17. The rear brake used a single hydraulic disc, and the rear suspension was link-type with four-way adjustable rebound damping and seven-way adjustable pre-load. The rear tire was a 150/70-ZR-17.

    Physical Dimensions

    • The 2006 Katana had an overall length of 84.3 inches, a width of 29.7 inches and a height of 74 inches. The seat height of the 2006 Suzuki Katana 1100 was 30.9 inches. It had a ground clearance of 4.7 inches, a wheelbase of 57.9 inches, and a dry weight of 458 lbs. for the standard model and 462 lbs. for the California model.

    Colors and Fuel Capacity

    • The available colors for the 2006 Katana 1100 were white and blue or solid black. The maximum fuel capacity was 5.3 gallons for the standard model and 4.9 gallons for the California model.
