    • 1). Turn the ignition off and remove the key from your truck's lock cylinder. Pull the truck's hood release lever then raise and support the hood.

    • 2). Locate your Dodge's battery and identify the negative cable and post. The cable is typically black however; some manufactures including Chrysler install two black cables and instead rely on the battery's identifying symbols. If this is the case, the battery cable connected to the post marked negative (-) is the cable that you need to disconnect from the battery with a socket wrench.

    • 3). Stand directly in front of your Cummins engine facing the windshield. On the front, side of the engine, right before you sits the radiator's cooling fan. Unlike smaller cars, upon observation you will see that the fan attaches to the engine instead of mounting against the rear of the radiator.

    • 4). Peer behind the radiator fan on your Dodge. The component that the fan attaches to is your truck's water pump. In order to remove the water pump you must first drain the coolant from your 2001 Dodge's radiator into a coolant drain pan.

    • 5). Loosen the bolt at the rear of the fan with a 36mm fan wrench. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the side of the water pump by removing the spring-tension clamp securing it in place with a pair of pliers. Remove the seven bolts around the outer edges of the water pump with your socket wrench. Pull the pump away from its mounting position on your 2001 Dodge Cummins engine and discard it.
