How to Change the Headlight for a 1983 Honda Gold Wing Aspencade
- 1). Remove the headlight-adjustment knob on the motorcycle's instrument cluster, using a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the knob's set-screw. Pull the knob off of the adjustment shaft and set it aside.
- 2). Loosen the adjustment shaft's lock nut with a 17 mm wrench. Twist the lock nut counterclockwise to unscrew it from the instrument cluster. Set the lock nut aside.
- 3). Push the adjustment shaft in towards the instrument cluster to force the headlight assembly out of the front fairing. Grasp the headlight and pull it out of the fairing.
- 4). Pull the wiring harness off the headlight assembly and remove the rubber dust boot that surrounds the bulb. Unlock the bulb's retaining pin, squeezing the pin's legs together to unlock it from the headlight assembly and swing the retaining pin open. Pull out the damaged bulb and discard it.
- 5). Slide a new headlight bulb into place and close the retaining pin over it. Squeeze the pin's legs and lock the retaining pin into the headlight assembly. Place the rubber dust boot over the bulb and press it into place.
- 6). Plug the headlight bulb's prongs into the wiring harness. Slide the headlight assembly into the front fairing until the adjustment shaft extends out from the instrument cluster. Screw the lock nut into place over the adjustment shaft and tighten it with a 17 mm wrench. Reattach the knob to the adjustment shaft, tightening the knob's set-screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 7). Turn on the motorcycle's headlight and cycle between high and low beam to ensure proper operation. If the headlight does not work in one or both modes, check that the headlight bulb's prongs are completely inserted into the wiring harness.
