Trailers to Handle Headstone Monuments

    Load

    • Trailers used to carry headstone monuments must handle the load. The load given for the trailer in pounds should never be exceeded by the weight of the stone being carted. However, it is allowable for trailers that can take a much larger load to carry a smaller stone, or several smaller stones, as long as the weight is not exceeded.

    Tie Downs

    • Always properly secure the cargo when it's in a trailer. Tie down straps are paramount, and they should be padded straps so as not to damage the stone. While chains and other types of tie downs might function just as well, there's also a possibility of injuring the stone while it's in transport.

    Width

    • The headstone has to be transported to its specific spot in a cemetery, which means a trailer has to be able to fit between the rows of headstones. Measure the width of your trailer to check the clearance it will need to get the headstone to where it needs to be. Be aware of the layout of the cemetery as well.

    Enclosed

    • Always transport a headstone monument in an enclosed trailer. The less the trailer is exposed to the elements during transportation, the less chance of damage to the headstone or monument.. A statue that's of a significant size could be struck by flying debris, or wind from the driving speeds could dislodge tie straps and cause the monument to fall over. These can be avoided if the trailer is enclosed.
