The Lincoln Movie Shows Slavery Was Abolished In America But Is That True

For my birthday yesterday I went and saw the Lincoln movie. I'm a guy that likes to learn from inspirational figures, past or present.

A good friend of mine wanted to see it as well. Him and I tend to have deep philosophical discussions over tough issues facing us in life anyways so we said we might as well add this movie to our list.

I love going to movies and I'm the type of person that looks at things from a different perspective. Definitely not on the surface level. I also believe myself to be an intelligent individual as well.

For some reason this movie at times was way over my head, boring, and long. After leaving the theater I expressed my concerns with my friend and he stated that you have to be a historian to appreciate that movie and to really follow what was going on.

He mentioned that he was going to have to see it again. I told him that he was on his own. We did bring up some highly debateable  topics though. The first one is if this movie was propaganda at it's finest. We both decided yes on that.

Second I mentioned there are strong indications that Lincoln had some black in him which most Americans don't want to agree with. If that is the case then Barack Obama would not technically have been our first black President.

Third we talked about if Lincoln really fought hard to end slavery because he believed in all human equality or if it was a money issue. Many historians strongly believe money is what caused the 13th Amendment to be ratified. As a famous business person said, "It's always about the money."

Lastly, and this is where most of our conversation focused, we discussed that although the 13th Amendment abolished slavery for Black America, Black America still is enslaved. You can look at 2 major areas and see that what I am saying is true.

The prison system is majority black.

Many blacks in America are enslaved to drugs, alcohol, and violence which is extremely prominent in the hoods.

Now because I am a person that just doesn't look at one race and see inequality I want to broaden this discussion on slavery.

It's not only affecting black America, but white America and every other race as well. It's what I call the 40/40/40 plan. You work 40 hours per week, 40 years of your life, only to retire on 40% of your income. Whoever came up with this idea has enslaved more people than slavery in America from back in the earlier centuries.
The reason I bring this up is because slavery makes you believe that this is all there is. That there is no hope. Slavery oppresses people. And what I see are many Americans that have no hope, that are oppressed, and more importantly have given up on their hopes and dreams because they feel like they are slaves to their jobs.

They feel like this is all there is to life, it's not going to get better, there's no point in trying something different. Many people have been duped to believe that this is the only way to make a living. I emphatically disagree. Now are jobs necessary, yes.

However giving up on your life's purpose and not pushing yourself to be better just to earn a paycheck is slavery at its best. So yes in a technical sense the Lincoln movie shows that slavery was abolished for black people by the 13th Amendment.

But who's going to abolish this mental slavery that has captured the minds of millions of Americans to lead them to believe this is all there is, just work? Who's going to fight for freedom to free Americans and show them a better way of living?

I firmly believe that is what entrepreneurs do. We pave the way and show others that if they sacrifice and are willing to step out into the unknown the risk is worth the reward. But you have  to be willing to face scrutiny and criticism like Abraham Lincoln if you are going to stand for something this big that goes against the norm.
