    • 1). Open the tent and lay it on its side. Locate the knotted ends of the shock cord at the openings on the base of the tent poles at the corners of the tent.

    • 2). Pull on the knotted end of the cord with your fingers until you have exposed approximately 2 inches of cord through the bottom of the pole.

    • 3). Clamp the vise grip pliers around the exposed cord just above the opening in the pole, locking the exposed section of cord in place. Cut off the cord at the base of the existing knot with scissors.

    • 4). Sew the end of a new piece of shock cord to the end of the old cord, where the knot was cut off, with a needle and waxed dental floss.

    • 5). Release the vise grips and pull the old cord from the pole by the knot at the opposite end of the pole. Stop pulling when the stitched sections of old and new cord emerge from the end of the pole.

    • 6). Cut the dental floss connecting the old and new cord with scissors. Tie three half-hitch knots in the end of the new cord.

    • 7). Move back to the opposite end of the pole and pull the cord until it is just snug. Pull another inch of cord out the end of the pole and lock it in place with the vise grips at the base of the pole. Cut the cord with the scissors and tie three half-hitch knots in the end of the cord.

    • 8). Repeat the procedure for other poles, if any.
