Campground Review and Description:
Description:
My wife and I were looking for a campground near a family cottage for a weekend get together.
The location was perfect. The campground is a small and level (except the lake front sites 36 to 51) with electric hook ups at some sites for those that just can't untether. The area is very lightly wooded with a mix of conifer and hardwood. Most sites are open so you might want to consider some type of canopy. All sites have mowed grass. The campground is on the St. Lawrence River and is pretty and peaceful. It was very clean, including the bathrooms. Showers were ok, but need a little updating.
The lakefront sites are great if you have a tent, and although the NYS park description lists these as down a rocky slope, they aren't. It's a gentle grass slope except for two of them. No space for RVs at these sites. We enjoyed our lakefront site and the cooling onshore breeze was a welcome relief from the 90-degree heat. There is a small dock and it would be a great place to launch your kayak or canoe or a small powerboat.
Pros, Cons, Attractions and Additional Comments:
Pros: Clean sites, quiet and serene.
Cons: Lack of shade, dated but functional showers, and if you have kids, there aren't a lot of activities. Attractions: St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario with all the associated water sports. Thousand Islands.
Rating: 4

From New York State Parks: “Burnham Point State Park is small and quiet with lightly-wooded campsites, ideal for boating, fishing and relaxing. Boaters can explore local towns, islands and historic sites for miles up and down the scenic river. Popular game fish include bass, pike, muskellunge and walleye. In addition to tent and trailer campsites, the park has boat docks, a playground and picnic areas.”
Pets:”Must have proof of current rabies vaccination - certificate inoculation or dated collar tag. Household pets only, caged or on a leash, not more than 6 feet. Not permitted in picnic areas. For campers, if your site allows pets, there is a two-pet maximum.”
