    • 1). Remove the bronze fitting from the boat's hull using a screwdriver. Keep in mind that when you polish the fitting, you'll also want to polish the screw heads.

    • 2). Clean away any built-up dirt or grime from the bronze hull fitting using a toothbrush, water and baking soda. With the fitting thoroughly cleaned, run clean water over it to wash away the baking soda and additional dirt. Rinse out the toothbrush.

    • 3). Apply a small amount of bronze polish to a clean rag, and then wipe the surface of the hull fitting vigorously until you have removed the tarnish from the surface, showing the bright bronze finish beneath.

    • 4). Apply some of the bronze polish to the bristles of the toothbrush and scrub the surface of the fitting where there are any difficult-to-reach areas. If you don't scrub the fitting, you will end up with black spots in the small areas where you couldn't polish the bronze with the cloth. When completed, quickly rinse the polish from the surface of the fitting with clean water.

    • 5). Buff the surface of the boat hull fitting with a clean rag to polish out any remaining haze that may still be there. Use a cotton swab to clean out any remaining polish in the smaller recesses of the fitting that you had to clean with the toothbrush. When you have completed the polishing, reinstall the brass fitting onto the boat's hull.
