How to Change the Belts in a 2000 GMC Sierra
- 1). Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Observe how the old belt is positioned on the pulleys. Locate the tensioner pulley underneath the alternator.
- 2). Place a 3/8 inch socket wrench without a socket in the square hole at the bottom of the pulley. Ensure the socket wrench is set to the loosen position.
- 3). Turning the socket wrench will force the pulley back far enough to loosen the old belt.
- 4). Take the belt off the pulleys. Discard the old belt. Let go of the socket wrench.
- 5). Place the new belt on the pulleys following the belt diagram. The belt diagram is located on top of the radiator assembly. Ensure the belt is on all the pulleys attached the motor.
- 6). Pull the belt with your fingers to ensure it is tight around the pulley. Start the truck to ensure the belt is moving properly.
