    • 1). Disconnect your computer from any electrical power sources.

    • 2). Remove your computer's side access panel. This may require removing two thumbscrews on the back of the computer's case.

    • 3). Locate your computer's hard drive bays. These are located near the front face of the computer's case beneath the optical drives.

    • 4). Unplug your hard drive's power and data cables from the rear of the drive.

    • 5). Slide the drive out of the hard drive bay. There may be a small latch or release button depending on the design of your particular case. Refer to your manufacturer's specifications for the exact procedure.

    • 6). Insert your new SATA hard drive into the now free hard drive bay.

    • 7). Connect a SATA power connector from the power supply unit to the rear power connector of the hard drive. This connector will be labeled on both the hard drive and the cable.

    • 8). Connect a SATA data cable from one of the motherboard's SATA connectors to the rear SATA data connector on the rear face of the hard drive. SATA data connectors are usually located on the bottom-right portion of the motherboard and are keyed identically to the connector on the rear face of the drive.

    • 9). Replace your computer's side access panel and reestablish any electrical power severed previously.
