    Setting Up the Print Server

    • 1). Click "Start," "Administrative Tools."

    • 2). Select "Configure Your Server Wizard." Click "Next."

    • 3). Click "Next." Click on the check box next to "Print server in the Server role." Click "Next." The "Printers and Printer Drivers" dialog box will open.

    • 4). Click on the check boxes next to the Windows clients you want the print server to support. Click "Next."

    • 5). Click "Next." The "Add Printer Wizard Welcome" screen will appear. Click "Next." Click on the check box next to "Local printer attached to this computer."

    • 6). Check the check box next to "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" to deselect this option. Click "Next."

    • 7). Choose the port your printer is connected on. Click "Next."

    • 8). Scroll to and click on your printer's make and model that is connected to your computer. Click "Next" when you are selecting your printer. If prompted with do you want to keep or update the driver, select the keep existing driver option. The Microsoft 2003 print server wizard will use your printer's existing driver.

    • 9). Click "Next" when the default name for your printer appears. Click on the check box next to "Share." Enter a name for the shared printer. Click "Next."

      Enter the location of the printer and a comment, if desired. This comment can include a description of the office or other location the printer is physically located in. Click "Next."

      Check the check box next to "Print a test page" to test the printer. Click "Next."

      Choose "Finish" when prompted. Your print server printer will appear in the "Printers and Faxes" folder.

    Sharing the Printer

    • 1). Click "Start," "Printers and Faxes." Right-click on the printer that you installed in the "Setting Up the Print Server" section. Click "Sharing."

    • 2). Select "Share this printer." Enter the name you entered in step 9 of the "Setting Up the Print Server" section.

    • 3). Click "Additional Drivers." Click the operating systems of the client computers that are attached to this printer. This allows connected computers to download the drivers for the print server printer and use the device. Click "OK."

    • 4). Insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM drive when prompted. The printer sharing installation process will begin.

    • 5). Hit "OK" when prompted. Click on the "X" in the upper right-hand corner of the "Printers and Faxes" folder to close the open dialog box.
