Explain WAP Phone
- WAP began in 1997 when four major mobile companies united to create advanced applications and Internet capabilities for mobile phones. Mobile devices that are WAP-enabled have the ability to fax, e-mail and create mobile devices that are able to access the Internet.
- Mini-browser software allows mobile devices to view Internet pages on the phone's display screen. Mobile devices with WAP capabilities can show full websites as well as WAP pages that are designed for mobile handsets.
- There are several kinds of WAP standards for mobile devices, and they are xHTML, HDML, WML and cHTML. The standard that is widely used throughout the industry for mobile websites is xHTML.
- WAP 2.0 was developed to expand mobile services further through the use of products, content and services. Cascading Style Sheets, Transport Layer Security, HTTP and TCP protocols are a part of the Internet standards for WAP.
- Erricson, Nokia, Motorola and Unwired Planet created an industry forum for WAP mobile devices. With more than 450 members from all levels of the wireless industry, the goal is to ensure product interoperability and wireless market expansion.
