Disobedience to God

"God is love." "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him."

These are just some of the many quotations from the Bible that speak of God's infinite goodness to man. In the Old Testament we read that God never lets down his people. When people decided to cancel obedience to Him, God was merciful and returned to them. In the New Testament we read that our Lord Jesus Christ gave His life to redeem us from sin.

We ask ourselves: How is it possible that a man so often disobey God who infinitely loves him?! Why do we so often wander from God's path, although we know that God's path is best for us?!

The answer can be found in our fallen nature. By Adam's sin we lost a perfect relationship with God that we had prior to that sin.

Our fallen nature distracts us from what we are and takes away our immortality. The cure for this condition is taking sacraments, especially Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion. They make us re-united with our Creator and using them we find lost happiness.

Another reason for man's disobedience, related to first one, is pride. A man thinks that he knows better than Lord what is good and what is wrong. The man himself becomes a god. A man who falls into this situation completely loses life wisdom. He forgets his Creator.

Creator's words to Jeremiah, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

The third reason for man's disobedience to God is exaggerated anxiety and discouragement.

Jesus said to St. Faustina:

"My child, know that the greatest obstacles to holiness are discouragement and an exaggerated anxiety. These will deprive you of the ability to practice virtue. All temptations united together ought not disturb your interior peace, not even momentarily. Sensitiveness and discouragement are the fruits of self-love. You should not become discouraged, but strive to make My love reign in place of your self-love. Have confidence, My child. Do not lose heart in coming for pardon, for I am always ready to forgive you. As often as you beg for it, you glorify My mercy." (Diary, 1488)

The acceptance of God's will in our life requires some sacrifice. God asks us to give up earthly things. However, a man does not want to suffer the pain of sacrifice and turns a deaf ear to God's call.

Let's not allow ourselves to do so. If God had called us for a sacrifice, it means that He prepares us for a far greater joy.

Let's encourage ourselves therefore to obey the voice of God to fulfill His plan with us here on Earth.
