In this clip we are going to talk about the proper way to inspect a brake hose. This is your brake hose here. Right here it begins and it runs all the way around and down into the back of the caliper. The steel line up here is not flexible and being that you steer with your front wheels and the suspension oscillates up and down, it has to be flexible. That is why they use a hose. This hose has several components to it. Number 1 at the top you have the fittings there, the mounting bracket and another fitting at the caliper. This hose is made in 3 pieces. In the inside of it you have a very small rubber tube about the thickness of this steel brake line right there wrapped outside that rubber tube is nylon braid reinforcement. That's where all the strength comes from for this hose. These hoses carry up to several thousand pounds of hydraulic pressure that is required to apply your pads properly. You want to inspect that all the flexible points here at these fittings to make sure there is not any frays or cracks. If the rubber is cracked, that exposes the nylon reinforcement. Road grime and weather will deteriorate that along with driving and flexing back and forth. Once the nylon begins to fray, the hose is no good and needs replaced due to the loss of brake pressure if one of these ruptures. Let's take a look at all the fittings here, here, here and down here. Give it a good look at. You don't see any dampness in any of these areas.
