    • 1). Choose popular therapeutic or culinary herbs, such as basil, sage, chervil, lavender, catnip or chives, to propagate. Stock up on the materials you'll need, such as peat pots, potting soil and Popsicle sticks.

    • 2). Fill peat pots with potting soil with a spoon or small spade. Place the pots in rows on a drainage tray. Water the soil until moist, but don't saturate it.

    • 3). Sprinkle herb seeds on top of the moist soil. Plant about three seeds to a pot. Spread fresh soil over the seeds to just cover them. Press down lightly to be sure the seeds make good contact with the soil.

    • 4). Cover the pots in plastic wrap to keep them moist. Mark a Popsicle stick with the plant type and date it was planted. Use one Popsicle stick for each row of seedlings.

    • 5). Keep the pots in a sunny, south-facing window in a warm room until the seeds sprout. Shine a grow-light on the pots at night, if necessary, to give your seeds at least 16 hours of light each day. Don't let the room temperature fall below 60 degrees F.

    • 6). Sell some seedlings in their peat pots after they've grown a second set of leaves. Keep some herbs to sell as mature plants. Move the mature plants to larger pots as they grow.

    • 7). Keep some herbs until they are ready to harvest. Harvest the leaves to sell fresh or dried. Package the harvested herbs in small plastic bags or glass jars labeled with the herb name and the date it was harvested.

    • 8). Advertise your herb plants online on sites such as Craigslist and Etsy. Post flyers with your available offerings and your phone number on neighborhood bulletin boards. Sell your plants and dried herbs at farmer's markets. Put a large sign out in front of your house letting passers-by know what herbs are available that day.
