How to Replace the Valve Cover Gaskets on a 2000 JAG S-Type

    • 1). Disconnect the negative cable from the battery using a wrench to loosen the nut on the terminal. Remove the throttle body using a wrench to remove the bolts. Remove the PCV hose by pulling it off. Remove the air cleaner using a wrench to loosen the nuts. Label the ignition coils with a marker and masking tape and then disconnect them. Disconnect the wiring harness from the valve cover. Disconnect the engine wiring harness.

    • 2). Remove the bolts from the power steering reservoir with a wrench. Loosen the nut and remove the dipstick tube using a wrench. Remove the oil filler cap. Remove the left and right valve covers using a socket and ratchet. Remove and discard the old gaskets. Clean the top of the cylinder heads thoroughly and then place the new gaskets on them. Install the valve covers and tighten the retaining bolts with a socket and ratchet.

    • 3). Install the oil dipstick tube and tighten the nut with a wrench. Install the power steering reservoir and tighten it with a wrench. Connect the engine wiring harness by plugging it in. Connect the wiring harness to the valve cover and tighten the nut with a wrench. Connect the ignition coils according to the labels you made when removing them. Install the air cleaner and tighten the nuts with a wrench. Plug in the PCV hose.

    • 4). Install the throttle body and tighten the bolts with a wrench. Connect the negative battery cable and tighten the nut with a wrench. Start the Jaguar and check the covers for leaking.
