How to Properly Place Sheets on a Bed
- 1). Place the fitted sheet on top of the mattress with the corners aiming in the correct directions. Pull the fitted pocket down over the upper right mattress corner. Move around the bed and pull the pocket down over the lower left corner of the mattress.
- 2). Move over to the other side and pull the pocket down over the lower right corner of the bed. Move over the the last corner of the mattress, which is the upper left corner. Lift this mattress corner up, bending it toward the center of the mattress. Slip the final sheet corner pocket over this corner and let it fall flat. The mattress will now be covered with a taut bottom sheet.
- 3). Lay the top sheet on top of the fitted sheet. Lay the sheet so that the large decorative hem is at the top of the bed but facing downward toward the sheet. It may look like the sheet is on upside down, but this will change when you fold the sheet top down.
- 4). Pull the sheet up so that the top of the decorative hem is exactly even with the top edge of the mattress. Move to the foot of the bed and smoothly tuck the excess sheet under the mattress all across the width of the mattress.
- 5). Move to the bottom right corner of the mattress. Grasp the side edge of the sheet about 18 inches forward from the mattress bottom. Place your left finger on top of the mattress corner while lifting up the sheet with your right hand. When the sheet is pulled all the way up, tuck the remaining hanging sheet material underneath the mattress. Smooth the fabric so that the edge has no folds.
- 6). Pull the sheet material back down toward the floor and tuck it smoothly over the first fabric that you tucked in. This will have created a 45 degree angle hospital corner. Make another hospital corner at the bottom left corner of the bed.
- 7). Tuck the sheet in along the sides of the mattress until you reach 6 inches from the top of the bed. Make sure that it is smooth and without wrinkles. Spread a comforter on top of the sheet, with the top edge of the comforter laying 6 inches below the top of the mattress. Fold the top edge of the sheet down over the top edge of the comforter.
