    Local Resources

    • Recreation programs offered churches can yield a range of ideas. Activities you find at neighboring churches may include: a basketball league, dance classes, cycling and running clubs and coed softball. Know that recreational activities vary due to the time of season. In addition, remember to utilize former college athletes within your church. Sports fanatics or athletes can be a wealth of information for recreation activities. For non-sports related activities, seek out super organizers and creative minds.

    Recreation Organizations

    • Organizations have been created specifically to help with church recreation programs. Gain information by attending seminars and workshops put on by recreation gurus, like Church Sports or the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, or hire a consultant. If you're in the beginning stages of starting a recreation program or if you're in the process of growing your recreational program, organizations can be hired to perform a consultation and develop a program accordingly. For sports or non-sports related activities, gain ideas from companies like the Youth and Recreation Activity Center, a recreation resource filled with activity suggestions including: camping, drama, crafts and banquets.

    Recreation and Parks Department

    • The recreation and parks department in your community can be a resource to find available sports facilities: softball and baseball fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball nets and basketball courts. Verify availability and make reservations to ensure a court will be saved for your requested dates. In addition, permits for organized sports leagues may be necessary and should be taken care of before any dates are set.

    College Campuses

    • Understanding the basic principle of college intramural programs is a way to expand your knowledge on sports recreation programs. Check out local colleges around you or study online resources created by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association. Intramural sports organize a wide range of students with a broad spectrum of talent to compete on a semi-competitive level. Church recreation activities may parallel a college intramural program in many ways.
