When it comes to planning your first camping trip away there is going to be some fundamental equipment that you cannot forget.
The main two being the actual tent and the sleeping bags.
If you have never been camping before then it can be difficult to actually know what to bring whereas the happy camper who goes year after year will know better but remember that the choices that you make will have a direct correlation to the kind of trip you will experience.
Before you go on your trip with plenty of time to spare you need to make yourself a comprehensive list.
Seriously it is all in the planning.
Depending on your needs when you go camping it will make an impact on what you need to bring with you.
For instance if you are a family of four going away for the first time then you need to make sure that you take blankets as well as sleeping bags for the young ones, even in the height of summer it can be very cold in the dead of night in a tent.
There are some things that you may think are necessary to pack but to be honest are not totally necessary.
For instance there is no point in taking a ton of food with you.
Unless you have the means to keep your food cool then there is no point.
Only take enough fresh food that you are confident you and your fellow campers will eat.
It is good to take lots of tinned food as you do not have this issue.
Many campsites have little shops on site anyway reducing the need to bring the contents of your kitchen cupboards with you.
Let's face it you can go to the supermarket local to your campsite anyway for goods every couple of days.
Do you have enough room in your vehicle? This was one consideration I did not think through enough when I went camping for the first time.
If you wish to take everything including the kitchen sink with you when you go camping then you need to ensure that you have the room.
A roof box or car trailer can be a good way to compensate if you will struggle for space.
I always find that by packing everything first for a test run is the best way to know if you can fit all your goods in your car and trailer or roof box.
