    • 1). Raise the rear end of the Highlander with a floor jack and support it by the frame with jack stands. Locate the fuel lines running from the fuel tank in the center of the rear of the SUV along the bottom of the frame to the engine compartment.

    • 2). Examine the fuel lines for any kinks or crushed areas. Most newer lines are metallic. If they're made of reinforced rubber then look for dry rot, particularly around the ends by the ports. Replace any damaged sections of the fuel lines.

    • 3). Slide a bucket beneath the port on the fuel tank connecting to the fuel line. Use a wrench to disconnect the line and turn the engine over so you can see the fuel pump out of the tank into the bucket. Turn the engine off and reconnect the fuel line. If the gas isn't pumping out of the tank, then replace the fuel pump.

    • 4). Lower the rear end of the Highlander. If you continue to experience fuel supply problems, have a professional diagnose the cause.
