- 1). Place the Mac OS X 10.4 Install DVD into your iBook G4's optical drive. This is a slot loading drive. Push the DVD in lightly but do not push it all the way in yet.
- 2). Start up your computer by pressing the "Power" button. Hold down the "C" key after the start-up chime sounds. Push the DVD all the way in. This forces the iBook to load from the OS X 10.4 Install DVD.
- 3). Choose a language to use and click "Continue." Select "Disk Utility" from the menu.
- 4). Click on the "First Aid" tab and select your iBook G4's hard drive. Click "Repair."
