How to Use Concrete to Create a Water Barrier in a Driveway
- 1). Examine the concrete driveway. The driveway should have a gentle slope for drainage, and it should be all in a single, smooth piece without any cracks or crevices. If you find any of these, they need to be filled before you move on to the next step.
- 2). Seal the concrete driveway. Concrete sealant provides a layer between your concrete driveway and the outside elements, including water. When it rains or snows, that water will stay on top of the sealed concrete, and it won't seep through it into lower layers.
- 3). Check your driveway regularly to make sure that the sealer isn't cracking or breaking. If the seal has gaps or cracks, repair them before the water gets to the concrete beneath it and begins to seep through the pores.
