Anxiety and Panic Disorders Medication and Treatment
Successfully treating anxiety and panic disorders can be a bit more challenging than you would probably think. At the time I was first diagnosed as suffering from chronic anxiety, I assumed that I would be given anxiety medication and that would clear it up. In reality though, it's not as simple as just swallowing a few tablets every day, and then suddenly being cured and be able to live a normal life again. The fact is, that there are quite a few different types of Anxiety Medications available, and some will suit you, and some will not. You may find that certain medications can cause some very nasty side effects, such as a constant dry mouth, dizzy spells and fatigue.
If you have just started taking anxiety medication, then you can expect it to take some time for you to get the dosage just right. Now don't get me wrong – a lot of anxiety medications will start to help you almost instantly. When i first started taking Xanax, which was the first medication I was prescribed, it worked great. Before I had started taking it, I had been totally paralyzed by these anxiety attacks that I could not even venture out of my front door for weeks on end. Life was an unbelievable nightmare to say the least. However, as soon as I started taking the medication, I began to feel much better. That very same day, in fact, and I was able to open my front door and walk around in my garden.
The problem was though, that I began to suffer some side effects. The dosage was quite high, and it made me feel very fatigued. I then went on to try several other different medications, and eventually I found out that herbal anxiety medications helped me quite a bit, but unfortunately they were just not strong enough. What actually helped me in the end was a combination of talk therapy, anxiety medication, and alterations to my lifestyle. The causes of anxiety are indeed complex, and the solutions are often complex too. Anxiety medications are almost always part of the solution, but they are only one part.
In the long run, one of the most important things for me was to participate in an anxiety support group. Anxiety isn't necessarily something that you will have to deal with for the rest of your life, but it can take some time to finally get over it. Support groups have the advantage of giving you a community of people that suffer from the same condition, that you can talk to. You can exchange helpful tips with one another, and be there for support when times get tough, and you can even network with each other. It can be a great place to find new friends, since you already have something in common. Best of all though, you can find out about different anxiety medications and treatments from other people. This can greatly decrease the amount of time it would take for you to get your treatment to work just right for you.
