How to Store Propane Tanks Near Entrances
- 1). Turn all propane tank valves and control knobs completely off before storing.
- 2). Store all propane tanks in a cool location outside or in a detached shed, away from the possibility of high temperatures and away from the grill. Heat will cause the propane cylinder to build up pressure which can result in an explosion and fire.
- 3). Place the propane cylinders in an upright position when storing. Make certain the cylinders cannot shift or fall.
- 4). Store all propane tanks at least five feet from all building entrances, including doors, windows and vents.
- 5). Keep the cylinder valve closed on all propane tanks when storing, even empty cylinders. Seal the cylinder with a plug if required in your state.
