    • 1). Tear five to seven sheets of newspaper into 2-inch long by 1-inch wide strips. Set the newspaper aside.

    • 2). Pour the glue and water into the bowl. Stir the two ingredients together with a stirring stick.

    • 3). Dip a strip of newspaper into the glue and water mixture. Wipe off the extra glue with your fingers. Press the wet newspaper onto the wooden dowel rod. Press the paper flat. Cover the rod with a layer of newspaper. Let the dowel rod dry for about four hours, and then add another layer of newspaper. Let this layer dry for four hours. Keep the lid on the glue in between steps to keep it from drying.

    • 4). Spray paint the dry dowel rod with primer. The primer covers up the newsprint. Wait seven to eight hours for the paint to dry.

    • 5). Spray silver or black paint over the covered dowel rod. Wait for the paint to dry before continuing.

    • 6). Insert the tip of a drill on one side of the dowel rod, 10 inches from the bottom. Drill a small hole through the paper mache shell and the wood. The drill bit should not go through the other side of the rod.

    • 7). Screw the knob into the hole. Paint the knob silver or black with acrylic paint and a paintbrush.

    • 8). Spread a layer of superglue on the bottom 4-inches of the rod. Slide rubber plumber rings onto the bottom of the rod onto the superglue. Let the glue dry for 30 minutes before using the prop.
