How to Paint a Scratch
- 1). Rinse the scratched area with a soap and warm water mixture, cleaning off any accumulated dirt or debris from the vehicle's surface.
- 2). Sand the scratched area with fine-grain sandpaper, utilizing either an up/down or circular movement with your hands. Do not apply harsh pressure when sanding.
- 3). Apply and smear body compound to the scratched area with a butter knife. This will prevent more scratches from developing on the effected area. Allow the compound to sit until the substance hardens. After this, sand down the compound until it goes away.
- 4). Cover up the scratch with a sufficient amount of primer paint, utilizing an application brush. Allow the paint to dry overnight.
- 5). Apply the touch-up paint on the effected area using the application brush, and let it sit overnight.
