How to Change the Taillight on a Grand Cherokee
- 1). Open the lift gate of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and remove the two Phillips retaining screws on the side rail holding the taillight assembly to the rear frame with the Phillips screwdriver.
- 2). Pull the taillight assembly outward away from the side of the Cherokee to disconnect the guide pin ball socket from its seat.
- 3). Pull back on the red retaining clip of the wire harness connected to the taillight/brake lamp socket (top bulb in the taillight assembly), and then release the plug from the socket.
- 4). Turn the taillight/brake lamp socket one-quarter turn counterclockwise to release it from the taillight assembly.
- 5). Pull the spent taillight/brake lamp from the socket, and press the replacement bulb into the socket. Reinsert the socket and bulb into the taillight assembly (aligning the notches of the socket to the tabs of the taillight assembly) and then twist the socket one-quarter turn clockwise to lock it into place.
- 6). Align the guide pin ball socket of the taillight assembly into its seat, and press the assembly inward to lock the ball socket into place. Pull back on the assembly, and hand thread the Phillips retaining screws into place. Tighten the screws, and test the taillight/brake lamp by turning on the headlight switch and stepping on the brake pedal.
