How to Bleed the ABS System for a 2002 Chevy Silverado
- 1). Park the Silverado on a flat surface and open the hood of the truck.
- 2). Remove the master cylinder cap (located on the right side of the engine compartment).
- 3). Retrieve the spare tire from beneath the bed of the truck and take it to the engine compartment. Remove the cap from the spare tire, filler nozzle.
- 4). Connect the hose from the brake bleed kit to the nozzle. Place the other end of the hose onto the opening to the master cylinder container. Lay the tire over the engine compartment.
- 5). Loosen the lug nuts on all four of the Silverado's wheels with the lug wrench or 21mm socket and breaker bar.
- 6). Lift the Silverado with the jack and place jack stands beneath the frame at the four corners of the truck.
- 7). Start at the right rear wheel. Remove the lug nuts and pull the wheel from the truck.
- 8). Locate the brake bleed valve at the upper right corner of the wheel well. Place the 10mm wrench over the valve.
- 9). Connect the brake bleed kit tubing over the valve. Place a drip container below the wheel hub and place the clear tubing inside (or directly over) the container.

Turn the wrench counterclockwise until the brake fluid begins to flow through the tube. Watch the fluid and turn the wrench clockwise when there are no longer air bubbles visible in the stream of fluid. - 11
Remove the tube and wrench from the valve. - 12
Replace the wheel onto the right rear hub and screw on the lug nuts. Take the tube, drip container, and wrench to the rear left wheel. - 13
Remove the wheel, place the wrench on the bleed valve, and connect the tubing to the valve on the left rear brake. Repeat the bleeding process. - 14
Replace the left rear wheel, and screw on the lug nuts. Take the bleeding equipment to the front right wheel. - 15
Bleed the brake line at the right front wheel and finally at the left front wheel. Return the wheels to the hubs and screw on the lug nuts. - 16
Lift the Silverado and remove the jack stands. Lower the truck to the ground and tighten the lugs with the lug wrench. - 17
Remove the bleed kit hose from the master cylinder and spare tire. - 18
Fill the master cylinder with brake fluid until the fluid in the reservoir reaches the full line on the container. - 19
Replace the master cylinder cap, close the Silverado's hood, and stow the spare tire.
