Will Getting a New Pet Help Heal My Grief?

Reader Question: My 11 year old baby, a cockapoo, died during his last seizure in January. Will getting a new pet help my grief or will I be unfair to the new animal? ~Judith

Kim's Response: Dear Judith, I'm sorry for your loss. As for getting a new pet it depends on why you want to get a new animal. If your reason is to give it a home and because you love them, then certainly, get another. If you wish to get a new pet just to replace the one you had, then wait, that would be unfair and you will probably want to properly grieve for your cockapoo before getting a new pet.
