How to Replace a Belt on a 1994 Toyota Camry
- 1). Park the 1994 Toyota Camry and open the hood. Shut the engine off and wait about 30 minutes for the front of the engine to cool down.
- 2). Locate the power steering pump on the front of the engine. Locate and remove the top mounting bolt from the top of the power steering pump bracket with the ratchet and a socket. Pull the bolt out and place it in a safe area. Only loosen the bottom power steering pump bracket bolt with the ratchet and socket.
- 3). Slide the pry bar between the power steering pump and the power steering pump bracket. Pry the pump toward the right hand side of the engine until the belt becomes loose. Slide the belt out of the power steering pump pulley, crankshaft pulley and the water pump pulley. Pull the belt out of the engine bay.
- 4). Locate the alternator that is mounted on the front of the engine. Loosen the top pivot bolt from the top of the alternator with the ratchet and a socket. Locate the adjustment bracket that is mounted to the alternator. Loosen the lock nut on the front of the adjustment bracket with the ratchet and a socket. Turn the adjustment bolt on the end of the bracket counterclockwise to loosen the belt. Pull the belt out of the alternator pulley and the air conditioner pulley. Pull the belt out of the engine bay.
- 5). Route the new power steering pump belt into the power steering pump pulley, crankshaft pulley and the water pump pulley. Pry the power steering pump over until the belt is tight. While holding tension on the power steering pump with the pry bar, use your other hand to tighten the lower mounting bolt back down tight. Check the tension on the power steering pump belt.
- 6). Push inward on the power steering pump belt with your hand. If the belt pushes in more than a half-inch, there is too much free play in the belt. Continue to pry the pump over until there is no more than a half-inch of slack in the belt. Slide the top mounting bolt back into the top of the power steering pump. Tighten with the ratchet and socket.
- 7). Route the alternator belt around the alternator pulley, crankshaft pulley and the air conditioner pulley. Turn the adjustment bolt clockwise with the ratchet and socket to tighten the belt. When the belt becomes tight, check the tension of the belt with your hand. If there is more than a half-inch of free play in the belt, continue to tighten the belt until there is no more than a half-inch of slack in the belt.
- 8). Tighten the lock nut and the top pivot bolt back down tight with the ratchet and socket. Look over both belts to ensure that they are secure inside of each accessory pulley.
- 9). Crank the 1994 Toyota Camry and allow the motor to run for about 20 to 30 seconds. Turn the engine off and recheck the tension on both belts.

Inspect the belts to ensure that both belts are still secure inside of each accessory pulley. Close the hood.
