Drive Belt Installation in the 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis
- 1). Inspect the underside of he hood on the Mercury for a pulley diagram. If you do not locate one, make your own. Make sure you denote the side of the pulley the drive belt drives against to ensure you can place the belt back onto the pulley system correctly.
- 2). Loosen the through bolt on the top of the alternator using a socket and ratchet. Loosen the pivot bolt on the bottom of the alternator.
- 3). Push down on the alternator, and remove the drive belt from the pulleys.
- 4). Place the new belt onto the pulley system using the pulley diagram.
- 5). Place the tire iron that came with the Mercury between the bottom of the alternator and the bracket the alternator bolts to.
- 6). Press down on the handle of the tire iron until the belt is stout. Secure the alternator by tightening the through bolt and the pivot bolt while you hold down on the tire iron.
