What SD Card Types Does HTC Hero Support?
- Familiarize yourself with the different types of SD cards available to ensure you purchase the right card for the HTC Hero. As of the date of publication, SD cards come in three categories: SD, SDHC and SDXC. Each category is subdivided into standard-, mini- and micro-sized formats, except for the SDXC category, which is only produced in standard- and micro-sized formats. SDXC and microSDXC cards offer between 32GB and 2TB of memory, but are not supported by the Hero.
- MicroSD and microSDHC cards, which are supported by the Hero, are about the size of a fingernail, measuring 0.4 inches wide, 0.6 inches long and 0.04 inches deep. Standard-sized SD, SDHC and SDXC cards are about the size of a postage stamp and measure 0.9 inches wide, 1.3 inches long and 0.08 inches deep. MiniSD and miniSDHC cards are about 37 percent the size of standard-sized SD cards and measure 0.8 inches wide, 0.8 inches long and 0.06 inches deep. Simply put, the HTC Hero supports the smallest SD cards designated as microSD and microSDHC.
- With expanded memory, the Hero, which has 288MB of built-in memory, has more room to add large-scale files, such as photos, videos and applications. Adding up to 2GB of memory with a microSD card will not offer as much room as microSDHC cards do. For transferring files and synchronizing data, the Hero connects to a personal computer through a miniUSB cable. Occasionally checking the phone's content for unused or unwanted files, and deleting them, will help maximize the phone's available memory, whether added or not.
- Adding memory to the Hero will also give you more room for contact data. With 32GB of expanded memory offered by a microSDHC card, the phone supports a virtually unlimited amount of contacts with multiple phone numbers and photo and ringtone ID. Photo ID allows you to add a picture to each contact that appears when that person calls you. Ringtone ID gives you the option of assigning a stock or custom ringtone to each contact that sounds when that contact calls you.
