How to Upgrade HP Pavilion Memory
- 1). Turn off and unplug the HP Pavilion laptop.
- 2). Turn the laptop over so the bottom of the case is facing up.
- 3). Remove the two screws from the middle rectangular panel on the back of the laptop case.
- 4). Remove the rectangular cover. The memory strips will be visible.
- 5). Locate the small clamps on each side of the top memory strip, if present. Squeeze the clamps and pull the memory strip upward to remove.
- 6). Locate the small clamps on each side of the bottom memory strip. Squeeze the clamps and pull the bottom memory strip upward to remove.
- 7). Insert the first new memory strip into the bottom memory receptacle. Press the strip downward until the side clamps snap into place.
- 8). Insert the second new memory strip into the top memory receptacle, if present. Press the strip downward until the side clamps snap into place.
- 9). Replace the rectangular cover. Insert and tighten the two screws.

Boot up the laptop. The memory should automatically register with the operating system. To verify that the memory upgrade was successful, click the Windows "Start" button and right-click "Computer". Select "Properties" from the context menu. In the "System" section, check the entry labeled "Memory (RAM)". The listed value should equal the total memory installed.
