Making Money on the Internet-Hobby, Job or Business?

Making money on the Internet is hardly a novel concept. Millions, right now, are reeling from the recent economic upheavals worldwide. Generating income online seems to be a logical solution until one begins their search. At this point you are met with a confusing array of opportunities.

The first thing you will want to consider is: hobby, job or business. Aside from legal and tax issues there are the physical and psychological questions.

It sounds technical but its not.

Do you want extra income or need a full time income? Do you intend to pursue your work online as a hobbyist or a business person? Do you intend to work online as an employee or a business owner?

You may be a person who simply wants an additional income, with little investment, and the option of "working" when and if you feel like it. You may want to view it as a money making hobby and just have some fun. That's O.K.!

You may want to work online as an employee versus commuting to a traditional workplace.

You may be seeking an online "career". If so, you may want to search out the possibilities of online business ownership.

Each intention or choice will take you down a different path with many side paths. It's really a question of what your goals are. This in turn will determine where and what you search for.

Let's assume that you are intent on making money through a business venture. Now you will have some options.

Just to list a few for example:

* Business services: provide freelance writing, accounting, and etc. services.
* Affiliate marketing: online distribution of others products or services.
* Internet marketing: direct sales business owner marketing products or services.

There are obviously innumerable variations of the above, but that should give you a general idea of some possibilities.

Each pursuit has its own characteristics such as level of financial investment, time commitment, short and long term return on investment, etc.

Generally speaking direct sales marketing will require the greatest level of initial or start up investment and time commitment. But, if operated successfully, this type of marketing can yield a very substantial income.

Making money on the Internet can be simple but it is rarely easy! Competition is not the problem. The biggest challenges will be your personal education (mindset), learning what and how to market, and actually taking action.

The number one cause of failure, believe it or not, is the failure to start and continue until you learn how to be successful.

Those with an entrepreneurial streak, that enjoy working independently as their own boss and are willing to take responsibility for their own success, will probably fair best as online business owners or marketers.

Online income is generated, in principle, much the same as offline. Your "total investment" will determine your return.

Your degree of success in making money on the Internet is determined by you. Your area of success begins with the answer to this question: hobby, job or business?
