How to Replace Headlight on a Trailblazer
- 1). Open the hood of your Chevy Trailblazer and remove the black cover plate with a screwdriver. The cover plate sits over radiator and runs the width of the engine compartment.
- 2). Remove the grill assembly from front of the vehicle by pushing down on the grill to release the clips. Then pull up and out to remove it from the vehicle frame. If the grill does not release from the pins, use a screwdriver to gently pry the pins loose from the grill.
- 3). Release the pins on the sides of the headlight assembly. Pins are about 1 inch long and sit on the left and right sides of the headlight assembly. Pull the pins upward to release them from the assembly.
- 4). Pull the headlight assembly toward you and remove it from the vehicle frame. Remove both 4-inch rubber caps, located on the back of the headlight assembly. Remove the wire harnesses from the back of the bulbs by turning the bulbs and releasing them from the harness.
- 5). Install the new bulbs by connecting them to the wire harnesses. To secure the bulbs, turn the bulb in the opposite direction that you used to remove them. The gray-based bulb is your high-beam; it should go on the outside of the assembly. The black-based bulb is your low-beam; it goes on the inside of the assembly. Once the bulbs are back in place, replace the headlight assembly and push the clips down to secure the bulbs.
- 6). Replace the front grill by placing it into position on the front of the vehicle and securing retaining clips. Place the black cover on top of the radiator and secure it with retaining pins and screws. Turn the headlights on to verify that they are in working order.
