The Jewish people are the "People of the Book".
To this day, tens of thousands of Jewish men all over the world - professionally study this book and its commentaries.
There are special "universities" called "Kollel" where married men study and research the Bible.
It is a noble profession - much like being a researcher in a university.
Many women look to marry "Kollel-Men" - feeling that they want to connect to God by having a husband train to be a Rabbi and spend his life researching the words of God.
Most Kollels are non-profit organizations and tends to pay minimal salaries.
They subsist on generous contributions of Jewish business men - who are slightly jealous that they can not spend as much time studying God's word.
By contributing to the Kollel - they become partners in the study.
There are thousands and thousands of books on the Bible.
The first five books of the Bible itself - called the Torah - was given to Moses over 3300 years ago.
Since then Judaic scholars have been studying it.
The Jewish tradition is to study under a Rabbinical Master as your teacher.
In the olden days, when there were no books, that was critical.
Even today, it is important to have a teacher.
You have probably experienced the same with one special teacher in your life.
One good teacher is worth many many books.
In today's Kollel study, the main Rabbi-teacher gives at most one or two lectures a week.
The rest of the time the men study in partnership with another study partner.
This mode of study is discussion based.
The two students discuss some theme or problem that they wish to study.
In major Jewish cities like Jerusalem or New York, there are hundreds of Kollels.
Some have only 10 students, others have hundreds.
They gather to study in a study hall - often a synagogue that is used for prayer an hour or two every day and as a Kollel study hall the rest of the day.
