Garmin C330 Vs. C340
- Both the C330 and the C340 have a built-in speaker that gives turn-by-turn directions to make sure you reach your destination. Both give voice prompts---i.e. "turn left in 200 feet"---but the C340 takes it a step further by giving street names as well. For example, if you are supposed to turn left on Washington Avenue, the C340 will tell you to "turn left on Washington Avenue in 200 feet."
- Both the C330 and C340 come with a number of maps---complete with favorites, points of interest and specific locations---already preloaded onto them. But as time goes on those maps, points of interest and locations can change. Both models allow you to download and use updated maps to the units by way of a Secure Digital (SD) card.
- As is the case with all portable electronic items, the smaller something is the more convenient it is to take with you. The C330 and the C340 are identical in size---4.4 inches wide, 3.2 inches high, 2.8 inches deep and 9.45 ounces in weight.
- The C330 and the C340 have identical screens---2.8 inches wide and 2.1 inches high. Both screens are also touch screens, which allows you to control your trip planning with the touch of a finger.
- Both the C330 and C340 can save a lot of time in traffic if something happens on your original route. Both models have a built-in traffic receiver that tunes in to local FM traffic stations and alerts you to detours, accidents and road construction. When the alerts show up, they are displayed on the GPS screen and you're able to re-plan your route to avoid the delays.
- With small items---such as GPS units---traditional alkaline batteries are not realistic because of size limitations. The C330 and C340 both come equipped with a rechargeable battery. Both units can operate for up to eight hours between charges.
