How to Build a Good Tumblr Blog
- 1). Participate in the community. Follow other Tumblr blogs, comment on posts and "reblog" content on your blog. Becoming an active member of the Tumblr community encourages other blog owners to look at your content and will likely help you gain followers.
- 2). Add a portrait photo to your sidebar using the "Settings" button on the right side of the dashboard. Each time you "Like," comment on or reblog another user's post, a small version of your portrait photo appears below the original content. People are much more likely to view a blog when the owner has a portrait photo, because it links a face with the name and gives the blog a personal touch.
- 3). Post content that other users enjoy and want to reblog. Because a typical Tumblr post is short, it takes little time to add several posts each day. Tumblr users particularly enjoy image posts. A funny or unusual image may spread quickly to other blogs, and when Tumblr users reblog your content, you receive credit as its originator.
- 4). Register a domain name and link it to your Tumblr blog -- particularly if you have a product or business to promote. The domain name -- for example "myproduct.com" -- replaces the default URL for your Tumblr blog, "myproduct.tumblr.com." This allows your blog to present a more professional image.
- 5). Use the "Customize Appearance" option on the Tumblr dashboard to install a new theme for your blog. There are several premium themes you can download directly from Tumblr, and you can find many other themes by searching the Web. Changing the theme of your blog gives it a fresh look. Other Tumblr bloggers are also likely to appreciate the effort that you have made to improve your blog's appearance.
- 6). Use the "Tags" field on the right side of the screen when writing posts. Tags are keywords and keyword phrases that describe the content of a post; these help others find your content more easily when searching Tumblr.
