Bipolar Syndrome - For The Love Of Animals And Sanity

Animals have long been proven to provide stress relief in their human counterparts but it is more so the case when it comes to those with disabilities.
Simply having a little furry friend in your life can make a world of difference.
Something about cuddling up to that warm fuzzy creature warms our hearts and souls and helps return us to a level of normalcy.
So how then does someone with bipolar syndrome benefit from animal therapy? Firstly, the four legged fuzzy friend can provide a companionship without judgement.
It can be hard to maintain relationships when you are bipolar and in a constant state of chaos, but pets don't judge us the way others do.
Pets love us irregardless of the mood we're in and can help pull us from the darkest of depressions.
They can also help restore us to being able to interact with others.
Social skills can be lacking when someone with bipolar syndrome has a depressive episode, but having to take our pooch out for a walk and out into public can help force us to overcome our fears.
The social interaction that comes from people talking to us about of animal companions to the little ones whose eyes light up at the sight of a puppy can help alleviate any socialization issues that we may have.
They also give us a sense of purpose, a reason for getting better and moving forward.
Relationships with other people can become strained and destroyed from being bipolar, and having a furry someone to love and care for can help relieve the issues we may experience.
Our furry friends can also bring us back from the brink.
Rates of suicide are less in bipolar individuals who have animals to care for because they don't want to leave them behind.
And with that they can also restore our confidence in ourselves.
We may have days we can barely get dressed, but Fido is always fed and cared for so we can do something right.
It can provide that little glimmer of hope in the darkest of days that we are doing things right, that we can make our lives better.
It doesn't even have to be a service pet.
Myself I have 4 beautiful dogs.
3 of which are rescues.
And in all honesty, I believe rescues are the best animal therapy pets ever.
They too have had a hard time in life, but are able to start again with the love and attention we dote on them while helping ourselves heal.
Giving these animals a second chance has given myself a second chance, and I would never again believe in living in a home without a dog as a result.
Animal therapy can be the right choice for many of us suffering from bipolar syndrome.
Give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised.
