It is Sinulog Time. It is the time of Baal. People in Cebu are now dancing and worshiping the gods that my real God hated. Am I against Cebu? Am I against the very occasion that made Cebu famous and attract its tourists in droves? Please hear me out on this. Read until the very last line of my blog. After reading..judge and decide for yourself.
By God's grace my blog was chosen as one of the Top 10 Best Cebu Blogs. What a privilege! This means that in one way or another I should promote Cebu and show to the world that this place is a very nice place to live in. Yes, indeed Cebu is a good place but I just cant keep my throbbing heart from shouting....Sinulog is blatant IDOLATRY.. If there is a purpose that I was chosen to be one the top bloggers this could be it! Like a small voice in the wilderness hear me find my voice... Cebu wake up! Remember: It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Hebrews 10:31
It has been a very long time since I wanted to write on this topic. What really moved me to finally be firm on my stand was the message last Sunday given by Pastor Jimmy Aranas. He talked about how God helped Elijah won over the 450 prophets of Baal in 1 Kings. It was on Mount Carmel that Elijah asked the people of Israel- How long halt ye between two opinions? They just kept mum. Maybe they really wanted to see more to believe more.. to see is to believe! Elijah gave the false prophets the first chance to call on their false god Baal to send fire on their bullock sacrifice. They leaped, cried aloud, cut themselves until the evening to no avail. Elijah even suggested they should cry more because their god might be "talking, pursuing, he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked..." Maybe they too danced with all their might believing they were crying to a hearing god. No fire came from their Baal. Now, when it was Elijah's turn, he made an altar, laid the bullock and asked that 12 barrels of water be poured on the water. Then he prayed - Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. What happened? The fire of God consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench! And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God. Do we have to wait for the fire of God to consume our city before we can proclaim- The Lord, he is the God!
The Bible is explicit.
3But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
4Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
5They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
6They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
7They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
8They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them (Psalm115)
Isn't it obvious? the image/statue people carry around and dance with has eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands, feet but all function not! It is still a lifeless and powerless image.
The Bible says the truth:
Jeremiah 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
Jeremiah 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
Jeremiah 10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
They must be carried because they cannot go for themselves. (Why is it that when there is a fire people haste to save the image..can it not save itself? can it not save the people who pray to it?I hope you do consider that God is a Spirit.And they that worship must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. He cant be portrayed in such creatures made with hands. How come the idols can be sold? If I buy a bigger or costly idol do i have in my possession a more powerful god? Is their a price for my god? My God in heaven is not a baby with curly hair.
Please don't take me fanatic or freak for speaking this truth: This festival is a blend of old ninuno idolatry and the christianity so-called religion. My heart breaks to see how people combine these traditions to celebrate abomination. And while the people dance to the festival's rhythm imagine how many young Cebuanas are trapped into the lair of some maniac foreigners who come here to ravage our young girls. I once was told that there can be no tourism without prostitution.
Now, my last point would be- seek the truth. God says in Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. If the Holy Spirit has touched your heart today, reach out to the Only Truth.. Have faith in the Only way.Jesus says - I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;.... Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ today, have faith in Him , confess of your sins, repent, turn away from your idols and accept the free gift of salvation he offered on the cross. Decide now my friend..You will meet the real God someday and you wont be able to carry your small idol in His Holy Presence.
