What Would Prevent My Macbook From Overheating?
- Apple suggests always using your laptop on a stable surface that allows for air flow around the laptop. Air flow can be restricted if you have your laptop on a soft surface such as a bed, pillow, blanket or even your lap.
- Although a hard surface is better than soft, you can increase the air flow around your laptop by using a laptop stand or riser. These stands come in a variety of styles and sizes but all of them contain small feet-like elements that hold the bottom surface of the laptop away from the surface of the table. Some stands position the laptop on an angle, which some people find easier for typing. Laptop stands are available directly from Apple or any other laptop retailer.
- Apple recommends only using your laptop only when temperatures are between 50 and 95 degrees F. Using your laptop when temperatures exceed 95 could result in overheating. It is safe to store your laptop when temperatures are between -4 and 113 degrees F, so be careful when leaving your laptop in your car in summer or extreme winter temperatures.
- To eleviate overheating of the power adapter, Apple suggests plugging the square AC plug directly into the wall outlet. This allows air to flow around the adapter. If you are using the extended AC power cord to reach your power outlet, place the square adapter on a hard surface if you can. Putting the AC adapter on carpet, a bed or stuffed furniture such as a couch can increase the chances of it overheating.
