How to Plant Neem
- 1). Fill a 4-inch pot or flat with good quality, free draining potting soil. Make sure there are drainage holes in the bottom of the pot or flat.
- 2). With your finger or a pencil, push two to three seeds into the soil so they are an inch below the surface. Space each seed 1-inch to 1 1/2-inches apart.
- 3). Water the pot thoroughly. Place the pot in a warm, sunny spot.
- 4). Check the soil every day to make sure it is moist and not dried out. The seeds should germinate anywhere between one and three weeks depending on how warm the area is. If the pot is in a cool area, the seeds will take longer to germinate.
- 5). Fertilize the neem tree once a month when it is actively growing. Use a complete balanced solid organic fertilizer, like a 6-6-6. Cut back on fertilizing during the winter months.
- 6). Water the neem tree once a week or spray the tree with a diluted amount of fish emulsion. Mist the neem regularly, too, as this plant loves humidity.
- 7). Grow in full sunlight. During the winter months, make sure the neem receives as much natural light as possible. Supplement several more hours of light with artificial lighting.
- 8). Transplant the neem tree into bigger pots as it grows. The pot size depends on how big the neem tree has grown. Ensure the pot has drainage holes at the bottom.
