There are many editions of the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system to choose from. This includes Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate. There is also a more basic Vista Starter available in some areas of the world. The features of each one are tiered in accordance with the company's pricing concept. The edition known as Vista Ultimate essentially has all of the features of the other Windows Vista editions, but it includes even more advantages for some computer users. It should be noted that there is also an Enterprise edition of Vista, but that is for large-scale corporate licensing and not a single computer license. - The hard drive encryption technology known as BitLocker is one of the primary advantages of Windows Vista Ultimate over other editions of Vista. The BitLocker technology essentially allows a computer user to modify a USB stick to be used as a kind of encryption key for protecting any sensitive data that may be on a computer's hard disk. This is especially useful for business and government computer users who may have highly important data on their laptops. If a computer user misplaced their laptop, anyone finding it would theoretically not be able to access the data without the BitLocker USB key the original computer user had made using the software.
- Another advantage of Windows Vista Ultimate is the ability to perform a full system backup. This is a highly advantageous feature for most computer users, as it can ensure that a full backup of a computer user's entire operating system, programs, personal data, and so on are backed up and ready to restore should it be necessary. What may be even more of an advantage is the capability for Vista Ultimate to also back up other operating systems installed on the same computer. This can be great for computer users who are dual booting another operating system, such as Windows XP, on the same computer as Windows Vista.
- Windows Vista Ultimate is the only edition of Windows Vista to feature the ability to use multiple user interface languages on one computer. This means that user accounts can potentially be configured for any of an array of more than 30 world languages. A user interface language is basically the language displayed on all of the Windows software, menus, help files, and so on. One user account could display Japanese, while another could display English, and another Swedish. A computer user could also change a display language to another language when wanted. This is also useful for installing software made for a specific language.
