    Make a Rake

    • Gather your materials together for your rake. You will need a long pole which can be a handle. It can be anything from an old broom handle to a long 2x4. To clean your roof while standing on the roof itself, the handle only needs to be between six and eight feet long. To clean your roof from the ground, the roof rake handle needs to be between ten and fifteen feet long.

Purchase a four-foot length of PVC pipe that you can use on your rake. Lay the PVC pipe perpendicular to the handle for your rake. Use wire or a bungee cord to secure the two pieces together so they form a T.

Wrap duct tape around the edge of the long part of the T. This will provide you with a better grip to remove the snow.

    Use a Rake

    • Clear the space beneath the snow covered roof of people, pets, or any piece of furniture. Climb onto a ladder propped up against the house. Hold the rake to one side and get it as high on the roof as you can. Set it down and then pull it towards the ground, but be sure to do this to one side of you and not directly in front of you. Pull the snow off in layers.

Clean your roof by standing on it. Be careful not to fall off. Stand at the top of the roof, above the snow you would like to remove. Hold onto the handle of the roof rake, and set the PVC pipe section into the snow. Push the pipe ,and the snow, towards the edge of the roof until it falls off.
